Eldon Keith Thompson, the eighth child out of 13 children born to Lauren and Goldie (Steele) Thompson, was born December 28, 1937 on a farm in King Township near Thompson, Iowa. He attended school in Lakota, Iowa. He eventually served in the U.S. Army with the 53rd Engineer Company in Germany as a diesel engine repair specialist. After his service, he worked as a mechanic for several implement dealerships and worked for several area farmers.

On December 28, 1962, Eldon was married to Elizabeth Ann Houg in Thompson, Iowa. To this union, one child was born, Charlene. This marriage ended up in divorce. On February 27, 1980, Eldon was married to Beulah (Shipler) Hungate at Fairmont, Minnesota. They were married until her death in 2009. Eldon enjoyed watching NASCAR races with Beulah, and he continued that after her death.

Eldon passed away January 22, 2024 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa.

He is survived by one daughter, Charlene Stienstra; two grandchildren, Christopher Stienstra and Laura Anne (Jeffrey) Weixel; brother and sisters: Roger (Linda) Thompson, Ruth Harringa, Janice (David) Winter and Sharon (Marion) Burt, and sister-in-law Rita Thompson, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Katherine Elizabeth Stienstra; brothers and sisters: Irene (George) Wempen, Everett (Helen) Thompson, Raymond (Beverly) Thompson, Howard (Carol) Thompson, Dorothy (John) Vodraska, Harold Thompson in infancy, Glen (Clair) Thompson, and Larry Thompson, and brother-in-law Melvin Harringa.

There will be a family graveside interment later this spring at the Riverview Cemetery in Algona, Iowa.
