Funeral Service for Burnetta Cummins was held on Friday, April 12, 2024, at the Global Methodist Church in Armstrong, IA, with Pastor Lyndon Roesler as Officiant.
Burnetta was laid to rest at the Armstrong Grove Cemetery.
Burnetta Irene Cummins was born on February 17, 1928, to Arthur and Goldie (Phillips) Guinn of Armstrong, Iowa. She died on April 8, 2024, at the Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa at the age of 96 years.
She was educated in the Armstrong Community School, graduating with the class of 1946. That is where Burnetta and Dale became best friends and their inseparable love for each other grew as the years went by.
Burnetta and Dale were married June 20, 1948, in the Armstrong United Methodist Church, after Dale had returned home from serving his country in WWII.
After graduation from high school, Burnetta worked 6 years as a bookkeeper for Geo Peterson, in his John Deere store. She then worked 32 years in the office of Iowa Electric Light and Power Company on Armstrong’s main street. She retired in 1984.
Burnetta was loved and known all over the country. Nieces and nephews were special people in her life. She loved her church and volunteered in the community until her health caused her to back off. She was a 70 year plus member of the American Legion Auxiliary, was a volunteer at Valley Vue Care Center, delivered meals on wheels and played Rummikub on Friday afternoon at Spring Creek with the girls.
The love of her life was spending time and vacations with Dale and her nieces and nephews. Other children were given special attention also.
Burnetta loved to give of herself and see happiness come through the eyes of children. It was a special time in Burnetta and Dale’s lives when Lonnie, Brenda, Belinda, Kelly, and Vance Guinn came to live with them after the death of their mother, Harlene. Hunter Guinn, great-niece, was also a big part of their lives.
Burnetta and Dale had 60 years of happy married life together.
Left to mourn Burnetta’s death are her many nieces, nephews, friends, and one sister-in-law, Lucille.
Aunt Burnetta had always indicated her beckoning desire to be with Uncle Dale in heaven someday.
Burnetta was preceded in death by her husband Dale, her parents, and brothers, Laverne, Clifton, and Ormal.
