A funeral service for Barbara Schroeder will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church in Ledyard. Burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2026, at Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church in Ledyard.
Barbara Jean (Winter) Schroeder, daughter of Raymond and Edna (Estle) Winter was born May 27, 1934 on the family farm near Lakota, lowa. She was confirmed on April 10, 1949 at First Presbyterian Church in Lakota. She graduated as a valedictorian from Ledyard Consolidated School in 1952 and cum laude from Waldorf College in 1954. She also attended Mankato State University. She taught in Cylinder, lowa and was a substitute teacher for many years after in various local schools.
Barbara married Ronald A. Schroeder on June 3, 1956 in Lakota. They lived in DeRidder, LA while Ron was in the military and then lived and farmed near Ledyard for over 60 years. She was a member of the Bethany E & R Church in Ledyard, the Legion Auxiliary and the Modernette Club. She held offices in all three of these including Women’s Guild and Love Circle for the Church. Barbara was an exceptional Mom, wife and friend, an excellent cook and was a partner with Ron in all aspects of farming. She enjoyed family and friends, teaching, gardening, cooking, quilting and working in the Ledyard library. She made personalized quilts for everyone in the family and these are cherished by each of us.
Barbara J. Schroeder died Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Accura Healthcare in Bancroft at the age of 92. She was a resident there since 2018.
She is survived by her three sons, Russell (Joyce) of Laurens, Robert (Kimberly) of Brooklyn Park, MN and Roger (Barbara K.) of Swea City; 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Carol Evers (Herman). She is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law: Larry & Karen Meyer of Wellsburg and Rick & Barbara Ristau of Blue Earth, MN, a sister-in-law Janice Winter (David) and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald (2019) and her parents Raymond (1961) & Edna (2010); her brothers Donald, James and David; her brothers-in-law Herman Evers and Wayne Gade, and her sisters-in-law Darlene Gade (Wayne) & Eleanor Winter (Donald).
