Gary L. "Butch" Thackery, the son of Willis and Phyllis (Eckholm) Thackery was born on March 13, 1946, in Estherville, Iowa. He passed away on May 8, 2026, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont at the age of 80 years.Butch attended Armstrong Schools. He was one of the first employees for Armstrong Rim and Wheel. He also worked for a few local famers and did carpentry work. After retirement, Butch worked for the school driving the shuttle bus.
Butch married Karen Ann Paulson on January 22, 1966, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong. To this union, three children were born.
In his free time, Butch enjoyed shooting sporting clays with his son, Murray, hunting, fishing, camping, and kayaking. He loved his fishing trips up north with the Kinnander family. He could also be found restoring things around the house and woodworking.
Butch is survived by his wife, Karen Ann Thackery; children, Murray (Patty) Thackery, and LaKrecia (Dean) Johnson; grandsons, Blake (Kayla) Thackery, Brendon (Hillary) Thackery, and Brett Thackery; step-grandchildren, Matt (Ashley) Pelzer, Katy (Blake) Keating, Diana Shewmaker (Cam), Michelle Pelzer, Lisa (Chris) Asman, and Krista Pelzer; 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Linda (Larry) Bell, Red (Connie) Thackery, and Mary (Mike) Rezac; and sisters-in-law, Pauline Solberg and Aileen Rienhardt.
He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Thackery, parents, Willis and Phyllis (Eckholm) Thackery, and siblings, Steven Thackery and Karen Thackery.
