Funeral service for Arnold Paulson was held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong, Iowa, with Vicar Kim Kacmarynski officiating.
Arnold was laid to rest in Armstrong Grove, Armstrong, Iowa.
Arnold Romaine Paulson, the son of Gunder and Lila (WIlliams) Paulson, was born on September 19, 1934 in Estherville, Iowa. Arnold was a fighter from birth, born premature and blind he still excelled at life. He died on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at the Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong at the age of 91 years.
Arnold attended and graduated from the Vinton School of the Blind. He then moved to Minneapolis, where he attended the Lutheran Bible Institute. At the institute he was involved in many speaking and singing events. In the 1960’s Arnold began working downtown Minneapolis at a newspaper stand. After a short time and with the help of some local coffee shop friends, he built and ran his own news stand for the next 20 years. He then worked in the kitchen at the Calhoun Beach Club, as a valuable and hard-working employee for over 20 years.
Arnold returned to Armstrong in 2000, where he was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church. Arnold was active in the church choir and as a member of the call committee. Faith was very important to Arnold, he enjoyed attending the social events and Elderversity at the Ingham Lake and Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camps. He returned to the Vinton School for many years to attend the all school reunions; he also served as a school trustee. In his free time, Arnold enjoyed singing, fishing and making friends. He had a love for cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and Twins.
He is survived by his sisters, Aileen Reinhardt, Pauline Solberg, and Karen Ann (Butch) Thackery, all of Armstrong. He also leaves behind sisters-in-law Carolyn Paulson of Emmetsburg and Judy Paulson of Osceola, nieces, nephews, and many good friends.
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Richard (Betty), Ernest (Mary), and Marlin, along with his sister Marian Paulson and brothers-in-law Roger Solberg and Ed Reinhardt.
