Lester Iver Lindell
A private graveside service for Lester Iver Lindell, age 89, of Mesa, Arizona, will be held at a later date when the family can be together. Interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont, Minnesota. Lester passed away Friday, August 6, 2021 at Banner Gateway Medical Center in Gilbert, Arizona after a long battle with cancer. Red Mountain Funeral Home in Mesa is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lester was born on July 24, 1932 at his family’s farm home in Armstrong, Iowa, to Iver and Meta (Prust) Lindell. He started school at a country school that was located across the road from the family farm and later transferred to Armstrong Community School. After graduating from high school in Armstrong, Les joined the military. He served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 and was proud to have served as an honor guard during part of that time.
When he returned home from the service, Les married Nadine Davis and lived in the Armstrong area where he farmed and sold seed corn. He later moved to Mesa, Arizona where he worked as a custodian for the Mesa School District until he retired. Lester enjoyed many hobbies over the years including slow pitch softball, golf, fishing, and outings to horse and dog tracks and casinos with his friends and family. He loved watching westerns, sports, and game shows on television. While living in Mesa, he was a loyal customer in his two favorite cafes where he enjoyed the good food and friendly staff.
Lester is survived by his daughter, Mary Glasnapp (Mark); step-children, Charlie Davis (Dawn) and Peggy Askeland; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren; 1 sister, Donna Johnson; 3 brothers, Roger, Jim, and Alan; 17 nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents, Iver and Meta Lindell; brother, Lyle; brother-in-law, Willie Johnson; 3 sisters-in law, Gloria, Joy, and Marabelle; and his son-in-law, Tyrone Askeland.
