Hazel Dettmer

Ledyard - A funeral service for Hazel Dettmer was held on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ledyard with Father Sunny Dominic officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Lakota

Hazel Ida Dettmer was born December 26, 1928, on the family farmer near Ringsted, daughter of Aeijelt "Nick" and Hazel Alberta (Nickerson) Meyer. She grew up near Ringsted and graduated from Ringsted High School.

Hazel was married on March 24, 1951, in Ledyard to LeRoy Koppen and one son, John was born to this union. They farmed in the Ledyard area and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. LeRoy died on December 23, 1964.

She later married Tony Kollasch on November 25, 1967, in Ledyard. He preceded her in death on September 2, 1982. Hazel married again to Logan Dettmer on April 28, 1984, and they made their home in Swea City. He preceded her in death on July 24, 2008.

Hazel enjoyed music, and dancing on the Bandwagon Show, and traveling. She loved spending time with her family. She became a resident of Valley View Care Center in October, 2007. She died there Friday, April 29, 2015, at the age of 87.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Sandy Koppen of Shellsburg; two grandsons, Pete Koppen and his wife Erica, and Aaron Koppen and his wife Holly of Shellsburg; two brothers, Edward Meyer and his wife Marilyn and Gary Meyer and his wife Carol Jane of Ringsted; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, John Koppen on November 29, 1990; and her husbands.
