Wayne Lewis Nyman

Wayne Lewis Nyman was born April 5, 1926, son of James and Alice (Peterson) Nyman in Rural Bancroft. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bancroft.
Wayne grew up on the Nyman family farm 5 miles west of Bancroft. He attended county school for 7 years then went to Seneca and graduated from Seneca High School in 1944.

He entered the United States Air Force right after graduation. He served as a gunner on B-29 Bombers. Wayne trained at Lowry Field in Denver, Colorado; Alamogardo, New Mexico; Buckingham Air Base in Fort Meyers, Florida and Hickham Field, Hawaii. Wayne was at Alamogardo, New Mexiso when they exploded the first atomic bomb. He was discharged in 1946 and came home to farm with his Father. He also attended Iowa State College in Ames from 1946 to 1949.
September 2, 1950, Wayne was united in marriage to Marjorie Nelson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bancroft where they were both members and friends since childhood. Together they farmed the home farm which was a century farm in 1984. When they retired the century from it still remained in the family.

Wayne started a radio and TV business in 1957. The business he started still remains in the family. He was a very active person. He served on church council, Farm Bureau, Lions Club, Bancroft Chamber, Greenwood Township cemetery board and served nine years on the Sentral School board.
Wayne liked to fly and had his own airplane and took his family to flight breakfasts and many small trips. He liked to drink coffee with his friends, travel, visit and play with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed collecting coins, stamps and antique radios.
Wayne Lewis Nyman, 90, died Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Hawkeye Care Center, Bancroft.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie of Bancroft; children, Darrell (Marlene) Nyman of Bancroft, Douglas Nyman of Bancroft, Arlen (Janet) Nyman of Algona, Debra (David) Klinge of State Center, Dwayne (Linda) Nyman of Bancroft, Ronald (Vicky) Nyman of Fairmont; a brother Dale Nyman of Baton Rouge, LA; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Wayne is preceded in death by his Parents; an infant brother; a grandson and a sister-in-law, Miriam Nyman.
