A Memorial Service for Jacob Lee Evans was held on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Nazareth Lutheran Church, Armstrong, Iowa with Pastor Lauri Boysen officiating.
Jacob Lee Evans was born on July 3, 2000 in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Jacob was born to Linda Evans Null and Gregory Allen Null. His blended family included two brothers and three sisters.
Jacob spent his first sixteen years of life growing up in Raeford, North Carolina. There, he enjoyed hanging out with his siblings and friends. He loved riding bikes with his sister Em, playing video games with his brothers, and playing soccer. While living in North Carolina, his family took annual trips to either the beach or the mountains. They were often accompanied by aunts, uncles and cousins.
In December 2016, the two babies, Em and Jake, moved to Emmetsburg, Iowa with their mom. Linda was battling an aggressive form of cancer and it was important to move the kids closer to family. Jacob attended Emmetsburg High School where he ran cross country and wrestled. He also enjoyed hanging out with his co-workers at Subway.
Unfortunately, Jacob’s mom passed away in October 2017. After her passing, Jacob moved to Armstrong, Iowa to live with his older brother, Nick.
In Armstrong, Jacob attended North Union High School. It was there that he really came out of his shell and made so many friends. He continued his wrestling career at North Union. Jacob also enjoyed working out, photography, art and listening to music. Jacob worked for Mitch’s Towing and did miscellaneous jobs for the Preston Family. He took particular joy in driving the equipment around the farm.
When Jacob wasn’t hanging out in Armstrong, you could often find him doing “really” odd jobs for Doc Reedy in Emmetsburg or playing with the eleven Reedy grandchildren. He was an incredibly happy and proud brother the day Nick married Erin Reedy in September.
On October 12, 2018, Jacob tragically passed away in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The love Jacob had for those around him was as evident as the love they had for him. He has impacted the lives of so many, in such a short amount of time. We are eternally grateful for the joy he brought to us.
Jacob is preceded in death by his Grandma (Kay Evans), his PopPop (Jon Evans) and his beloved Mother (Linda Evans).
Left to cherish his memories are his siblings: Chris Merwald (Whitney), Rhian Merwald, Nick Merwald (Erin), Em Merwald and Kayci Yates (David); his dad Gregory Null; his Aunts and Uncles: (Great Aunt) Judy Linham, (Great Uncle) Mike Hughes (Marilyn), Karla Evans (Johnboy) and Charles Evans; his grandparents Charles and Dot Null; and his cousins Jonny Evans, Kathryn Schweitzer (Mike) and Eric White (Elinclara). He is also survived by special friends: The Tamburino Family, The Reedy Family, and The Preston Family.
