Lore Lin Kabrick, 69 of St. Joe, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center.

Lore was born in Fort Hood, TX as an Army brat who relocated several times across the United States and Germany until returning to Algona in 1963. While attending school in Algona, she nurtured her love of theater by participating in drama club and often being awarded the lead role in school productions.

Lore was united in marriage to Randy Kabrick on June 16, 1972, and moved to Lone Rock where she embraced farm life, became a mother to her son Zane, and worked for Opal’s Decorating.

Following an auto accident in 1979, Lore and Zane moved to Mankato, MN where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and became a high school English and History substitute teacher. An avid reader, her thirst for knowledge and a good story were never quenched.

After returning to Algona, Lore managed Shackelford Floor Service for her dad, Truman Shackelford. Following her retirement, her days were spent reading, doing jigsaw puzzles and needlepoint, watching movies, and supporting local pet rescue programs. A wonderful storyteller, Lore would amuse family and friends with short stories of the crazy antics of her beloved cats, Gomez, Zoey Louise, Boz, and Echo.

Forever a big sister to Erin (Bruce) Buscher of Iowa City; Portlind (Dave) Bjustrom, Whittemore; and Charmaine (Jeff) Reyes, Algona. She was also an aunt and great-aunt to several nieces and nephews. Lore’s greatest love was for her son Zane Kabrick (Lauren) of Sarasota, FL, and her grandchildren, Quinn and Jaxon who will miss talking with Nana and sending her art projects.

Lore was preceded in death by her parents, Elaine Shackelford and John Paul Albright; grandson Joseph Christopher Kabrick; great-niece Sara Michelle Davis; and former mother-in-law, Opal Kabrick.

A private family gathering will be held for Lore in Union Township Cemetery. Her family appreciates the compassionate care Lore received from Kossuth Regional Health Center and KRHC Community Health. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Algona.
